Yup, just as the title says, snapped the idle cable on the freeway today. Not sure how or why, esp since Buddy Stubbs recently went through the whole bike and double checked their work on the carburetor.
At any rate, the Dyna got me home and actually idled without the cable to my surprise.
I measured the cable sleeve and it is roughly 42.5"-43". I'm not sure which replacement cable I need...would I find that length or would I find +6" etc? I can't figure out what I'm adding 6" to.
The idle cable doesn't really make it idle. It is more a safety thing to return the throttle to idle. Just make sure you have the right degree bend for where the cable goes into the housing and year type, then just get the proper length
You did it right, you measure the cable sleeve,,
Use this handy feature at Magnum Shielding to find stock size and plus sizes for your bike,, the info found here will show you cable play length and the right ends for your bike. You can then order at least knowing what you need. https://www.magnumshielding.com/?route=bike/search
I'm not saying you need the Magnum cable as I don't know what your other cables are,,

I'm partial to Hill City Customs cabling or just replace it stock. Put s few drops of lubricant down the cables at the 1 year mark intervals etc.especially living in the lower elevation of AZ. f it were me, I'd replace them in pairs. Lube before putting them on.
I picked up the replacement at Ramjet and I'm getting my tail kicked trying to install it. I don't think the one that just broke had the spring on the bottom and the new one does. With the spring, it does not seat properly on the carburetor armature. Not sure what I'm missing here.
EDIT:
scratch that, the doggone old spring was still in there, got it removed and I'm right as rain
