Okay gents...it's been a while and my need to feed the aftermarket beast has gotten the better of me again. This time I'm looking to change out the rear wheel for a size that will accept a stock wide white wall tire. I need to know if anyone has done a rear wheelchange on their bob to a 16" or 15" wheel (40 or 60 spoke) and what did you go with. Now that the stock front 19" comes in a white wall I want to change the rear and get them both powder coated red.
Im looking to do the same........powder coating and changing the rear wheel to a 16".........any input.........................................anyb ody............................................... ........LOLIFE......
Hey Lo...it's been a while and your bike is looking kick a$$. I found out that we can max out the rear, without any mods, to a 180 and the front to a 120. I've removed my front fender, and I love that look, but I think I could run a 130 up there now if I wanted. I'm kinda toying with that idea as well (along the lines of an exile). There's a couple of retro looking 170 rear white wallsthat wouldreally give the bike that old look and flavor for sure (bottom of the attachment). Anyway, I hope to get some input on this thread, if not, maybe we could team up and figure it out on our own and then post up pics and info. I'll be back!!!!
I bought a 4.25 x 16 rear 40 spoke rim to lace to my stock hub and Im still looking fora 160 or larger whitewall . All I can find is a 150 , Im not completely convinced that this tire/wheel combo will look ok from behind on the bob ...
If anyone is interested in my rear rim I might would part with it ... custom chrome rim

Where did you find the 170 rear white wall, the largest I've found was 150 ???
Thanks,
Scott
It's a 170/80/15 K555 from Dunlop. Also, Avon & Maxxis make one as well for a 15" wheel. I think out of the 3, I like the look of the Maxxis the best.
whats the largest youve found in a 16"..............what do you think a 15" wheel would look like.?................largest ive found is an avon 150/80vb/16.........................SDMF..are you going to powder coat the hubs or spokes...........Can they powder coat the nipples?............LOLIFE......
I'd like to go with a 16" wheel, but I want something fatter than a 150, so I may use a 15". Even though it's a 15" wheel, the sidewall is a little taller so I think it would look fine. Especially with with a wide whitewall the amount of black rubber would be minimized. As for the hubs, I am going to have them powdered in red also. I've got a line on a company called Landmark out of California that will do the powder coat andguarentee that the wheel it will fit with no additional mods.
i'm thinkin about goin to a 16 for a white wall too. o school choppers out here puts 150's on 5.5in rims and it looks WAY bigger than my 180 because of the stretch.
the problem i've heard of is that even on a 17in rim, going to a wider rim causes issues with the rear brake caliper. i would imagine this would be even more so with the 16.
