Default Strut covers

Been thinking about adding strut covers to my 15 FXDB. I know it's an easy install, but the service manual doesn't say a damn thing about whether or not I need to remove the upper shock bolts from the frame. I know the the shocks need to come off to get them on, but I can't tell if the bolt itself comes off too.

Anyone know?

I think the upper bolt is actually a stud and you only remove the cap nut. Do them one at a time so you don't have to fight the swing arm.

I swapped the chrome ones for black on my FXDF and if I remember correctly those slide right over the bolt. Yours are probably the same.

I have a 07 wide glide and the bolt will most definitely have to come out to remove the shock. Mine is not a stud as in the picture you show. Just a bolt that screws into the frame.

I did it on my '09 and number 9 in the top diagram does not have to be removed, but shock definitly does.

Exactly what I wanted to know. I knew the shock had to come off, but was;t sure about the stud. Not that its all that much more work, was just wondering.

I guess I'll go ahead and order the covers, and have them powder coated.

Just in case you plan to add a passenger pilon or change seats...the strut covers reduces the clearance on where the seats are placed. This can be a downer if you end up switching seats that need that extra 1/4 clearance.

Yikes... I already ordered. I found a set with a brushed finish that are a little scuffed up, but I plan to gloss black PC them. I got the set for $38, so I can't complain. I want to put them on here, and I think everything should be ok, clearance wise. I do have a full fender on now, and the sigs are gone, but that shouldn't matter.

Hmm, got that license plate mount laying around? I wouldn't mind buying that off you
