I wear a Shoei RF-1000. It is full face, but as far as helmets go, it is as safe as it gets. I just started riding, so I don't know if I am going to make it through the Texas summer with a full face, but I am going to try. The RF-1000 is not cheap by any means, but you get what you pay for. The vents in the helmet are excellent, I can adjust the level of wind coming in to remain cool. The inside of the helmet allows you to avoid all of the wind noise, but I can still hear the outside traffic which is a must for me. My helmet is matte grey and black, not one of those shiny in-your-face racing helmets. Try one on and see what you think.
I bought a Vegas flat black half helmet new at a big swap meet in NH, I already had a ZR1 half with a neck curtain for cold weather. The ZR1 tries to lift off if not cinched down very tight, but the Vegas feels like I don't even need the strap done up and fits like a glove. I regularly hop on the I91 freeway for 50 miles or so at 70Mph and never have any problems with it. I don't have a wind shield so I'm getting the full effect of the wind. I wouldn't even bother to try this with the ZR1. The vegas is lighter by 1/2 pound than theZR1 also.
I switched to the Harley Jet II this year. It is a 3/4 with full face shield. Best helmet I ever owned. Wife has the same. Love bugs are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just went to order one but because of my fat head she said 6 to 8 weeks, that is only for the 25" DOT. I loved the great honest service, I guess I will have a great new helmet next season.
I have the G-Max GM35X Naked helmet in Flat Black to match my Denim Black street bob. the helmet fits great and doesn't weigh alot so it doesn't feel heavy at all. I got mine from a local place called Rocky's Great Outdoors and Cycle Outfitters for $35. can't beat that for a DOT helmet in my opinion.
get the carbon fiber one, never saw anyone regretting buying one. i wear a beanie under mine, cuts wind noise down alot.
also mine has the ear flaps and believe me they are useless.
FYI, the little martian guy on the Flintstones was "Gazoo..." not "Kazoo.." I think the most famous Gazoo helmeted person was Craig Biggio of the Houston Astros - he was the only person in the major leagues with a big, round Gazoo batting helmet. I think his was over 20 years old.
I started with a full face when I had my Ducati, wore it on the Harley for a while, switched to a DOT 1/2 helmet, now I mostly wear a Voss beanie. However, this morning I just ordered a AGV Dragon, I love the look. I'm starting to think the beanie isnt such a great idea anymore. Think I'm gonna move from "cool" to common sense (IMO)...
I tried pretty much every half-helmet they had in stock at the dealer - everyone made me look like I was about to get shot out of a cannon. I'm going back to my full face Shoei helmet. I even found a new one to match the paint on my bike.
