I would pay attention to the conditions that it happens under, and if it is repeatable, bring it to the dealer, tell them, and have them ride it. Definitely before you put any mods on it. It shouldn't backfire under acceleration.
My dealer won't warranty any modifications that require a tune. Of course they claim that it's Harley that won't cover it.
That is correct. Changing the tune to a non-EPA compliant tune and HD is legally bound to void the warranty based upon the recent EPA consent decree. That's the same for all 2017 and future bikes.
My bike was stock for about a week, but the only thing I recall would be to lug it too low, and chop the throttle. You say you are beating it when it happens, so note all the conditions when it happens and take her in the man for warranty.
Has anyone had any issues with their lowrider s backfiring? Mine has done it maybe 8 times since break in but it still makes me wonder if I should take it in and have my bike down for a week or more, or wait til I get my exhaust/tuner and see what happens.
When it backfires, it's only under heavy/wot throttle, usually 2nd or 3rd gear, it back fires once, then I automatically let off the throttle, then it doesn't do it again for a while. It's never done it twice in the same ride, there's no check engine light on. It sounds like it's coming from the exhaust, but I'm not 100%. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Mine is stock, and it doesn't backfire. It does, however, have a very annoying tendency to pop through the intake, sometimes killing the motor. It happens just off idle when taking off from a stop. Crack the throttle just a bit and PFHT!!! Happens when cold or hot.
I've learned to expect it and ride around it. I am suprised, of six Harleys, this is the first one I've had that doesn't run flawlessly stock. I'm not too worried about it, as I'm tearing the motor down soon enough.
Yea that's my thought process. Figure I'll stop in wolverine HD and see what they say about it. If worst comes to worst, I'll see how it rides after the 117
