A few months ago I was invited to join the Hot Bike Build Off. One of the builders dropped out and I got the call 2.5 months before the deadline to fill the empty space. I knew that the chances of this bike being finished in time were slim-to-none but it seemed like a good way to get a large chunk of work done in a short amount of time so we got right to work! The bike started off as my personal 2007 Dyna Streetbob.
first we stripped the bike down to the frame and made a quick jig to safely modify the frame without anything moving around on me.
Then once I decided where I wanted to modify the frame, I designed and had my buddy machine a frame slug. This piece lets me eliminate the back bone section that dives down below the seat pan.
I removed basically the back half of the stock frame and made a new tail section. Here you can see everything notched and fitted ready to be welded. You can also see the frame slug I had machined.
all welded and the heat marks are from using a torch to heat the stressed areas of the frame after welding. This lets everything relax and cool into its new position. After doing this you can pop the frame out of the jig with no spring-back whatsoever.

Hmmm... Boost induced hooliganism, 5 axis CNC parts, amazing quality on tube fit-ups, and a really nice frame fixture. This is going to be very cool, I'm in.
