I am coming up on my 10,000 mile service on my 2000 dyna wide glide. All the service before (previos owner) was performed by a stealer, I am going to do my own maintenance. i just got the 2000 dyna book from Harley davidson ( from ebay) But I dont know what results everyone else has had with other oils in the motor ,trans, and primary. Any brand of oil filter recommendations. I have seem people using non harlry oil filters as well.Any suggestions. What about this shock proof oil vs royal purple. Let me know what you use ,the weight, and how well it works please. Thanks
I use HD filters, and HD 20/50 Dino oil. I tried the Mobile I synthetic and didn't see that it worked any better than the HD stuff. I don't seen the need to spend the extra money and go to the hassle of trying to find oil, especially when on a trip.
I change every 2,500 miles without fail, and the HD oil has served me well on all the bikes I have owned. I had 80,000 miles on my 95 Roadking with no problems. Wife had almost 50,000 on her 97 Lowrider with no problems.
Just an opinion. You will get plenty where oil is concerned. In fact, there is a whole section on this forum that is devoted to oil. Lots of information there.
i agree with bill i have used the H.D. dino oil in all my bike for 15 or 16 years and never had a problem. and i know people who had switched and went back to it.
I just put in Redline 10W-40 synthetic oil for the first time after using dino for 13 years on my other bike. I also used Shockproof trans fluid and HD primary fluid. I always use the HD oil filter. I am currious to see if the synth works better than the dino in the long run. So far, the synthetic is nice, but so does dino when it's new.
