Default Photo comparison of 18" 180 vs 17" 160

Saw a custom bike today at the stealer that had an sick looking fat tire on it sitting right next to a street bob...thought it must be a 240 or at least a 200 ...went and looked and it had a 180 with an 18" rim...I think the 18" rim makes the tire look bigger......I know you can run an 180 on a bob but can you run a 18" rim AND a 180....Has anyone done this combination yet...please post a picture if possible !!!

Here's the photo comparison..the pictures were taken with my phone so the quality is not great, but you can tell how much better the 18" looks !!

Nice comparison shot, camera notwithstanding. Dramatic difference. I'm going 180 on my Wide Glide when my rear wears out. I saw a Dyna just like mine with the 180 and parked next to it for a look. I never thought 20mm would make a difference but I was wrong.

thats a big difference but I think and I may be wrong but the width can be attributed more to the rim width of the 18" rather than just a tire saying 180? In other words what width is the rim on the 18" ? because those pics you posted that 18" rim seems to be about about an inch and half wider over the 17". Just wondering.....

They're not changing the swingarm.

I think the biggest difference is both the width of the larger wheel and the chopped fender. A 180 stuffed under the stock fender on the SB isn't going to attract the eye unless you hack 6" off the rear fender.

It's not the diameter of the rim that is making such a visual difference, it is most likely the width. It's probably a half inch to an inch wider than the stock rim so it's not pulling in the side walls and rounding out the tread so much. Take a look at JakeinIraq's bike. He has an 18" rim with a 180 but it looks much wider than a dyna with stock rims and the "wide tire kit" installed. That's because the stock rims aren't really wide enough to show off the width of a 180 tire. Sure, it looks better but not as good as it would with a wider rim.

Your gonna have to contend with the wiring running under the fender if you put the 180 on there in my opinion. Theres not much clearance there as it is with the 160. The rim being wideron the 18" is going to allow the sidewall of the tire to push out further as well giving it a much fatter look. I personally wish my street bob came with a 16" rim instead of an uncommon17".
