Who has done it? I'm talking about doing this with my AC backplate, add a K&N filter and then just put the original chrome cover, that way it will have more ventilation but still be covered for rain.
That's just not a good idea. I guess it could work but only if it seals up the filter correctly. Also you may have to flash the ecm as even just a k&n is more flow than stock. Good luck if you attemp that one.
I guess physically it would work but what about the extra air coming in. A k&n with a stock air box requires a new tune to make up for running leaner than stock. This should drastically improve flow. What are your plans for tuning it?
Also the gasket for the intake doesn't go against the air filter, just the air box so it may not seal.

Duh I'm thinking a evo style. If you know it will seal go for it and clean the backing plate so you don't see the edges. What about the air flow causing a lean condition? What tune?
