Default Pipes and ECM choice

I have owned Harleys for years now, and I need a little advise. I am a slip-on exhaust fan. Put many slip-ons on different bikes with great success. I usually use Dobeck performance TFI unit and I still may. I was wondering how well the Fuel Pak from Vance and Hines works. They make a plug and play device that is supposed to be a good unit. I am not a Power Commander fan never have and never will be. I perfer to do my own work in my garage and its hard to properly tune a PC III w/o a dyno. I have had luck with the TFI and want to know if any of you have tried the Vance Fuel Pak. It nothing more than the usual bolting up of the slip-ons and putting the numbers in the unit and fire the bike up ready too ride. I called their tech support and they said anyone can install it. What do yall think. Thanks for any help. I plan on ordering pipes and a unit this week for by streetbob.

I do not know this for a fact but I remember reading on here that the vance and hines fuel pack was crap. I bought the pcIII and have had good luck with it so far. But you are right to get it at its best you have to dyno it. I hope this hepls if I can find the thread I will post the link here for ya

Don't waste money on the FuelPak, it's garbage.

Have you thought about a Thundermax? I have talked to quite a few people now and it is a good way to go. Their set up will run closed loop and utilize the 02 sensors they way they should, to maximize performance. Getting mine done in about 2 weeks.

Can the Thundermax be installed like the Dobeck TFi and not need to be put on a dyno. I am looking for I know the easy way out, but also the cheapest also. My closest stealership is 100 miles away. I hate that trip if it can be avoided. I order everything I can and do all the work myself with a Harley manual. Its amazing what you can do yourself if you buy a tech manual read it and not be afraid to turn wrenches. I never take a bike into the shop except for the bare minimum service for inspections and things like that, or if there is major motor or tranny work that needs to be done. One of the biggest investments I have had in the past few years is several torque wrenchs (1000 bucks snap-on and a bike lift). If you have those things there is not much basic service you cant do yourself. I am not a mechanic by any means, just not scared to mess something up. Thats how we learn. Its expensive sometimes but I never tackle someting I know I cant do. Exhaust are something anyone can do. Tuning is a little more difficult, but given time anyone can dial a bike in good enough. Use tech support, they have saved me on many occasions. Hats off to the guys at Dobeck Performance, they are the bomb. Just like this forum. Its nice to be able to talk to other people and what they have done. It saves money too. You can find out what works and what doesnt simply by doing searches on these forums. Thanks guys for all your help and responses. I appreciate it and cant tell you how much it means.
