Hey all. I am looking at changing out my bars this winter. I am leaning towards burly narrows. Or possible the SEC mid glide perfect fit ones. I am torn between 12" or 14". Talk me into one or the other!
I am 5-11, i have forward controls. Bike is a 2013 street bob. I like the idea of not changing out cables for 12". I do not care for the look of straightening out the throttle/idle cables to run 14".
If any one has some side by side photos of the two different setup, that'd be great.
I've got 14.5in rise on my bars. Didn't have to bend any cables or extend any wires. Width is a factor a lot of people overlook when thinking about those "problems". Do you have stock bars on now? Seat positioning plays a big part in what would be comfortable to you as well.
I am running stock bars now. As for seats, i have the stock solo and sundowner solo. I only use the sundowner for longer trips (3 hour + type of road trips)
I get the width aspect. I am not a huge fan of the narrow grip apes. I dont care for the rise being nearly vertical. I like the look of Southeast Customs mid glide perfect fits or the narrow burly bars. I feel the bends follow the stock shape, which i like.
I'd go 14s and you should be good without cables. I had 16s on my street bob without extending the wiring. I bought +4 throttle/clutch cables and didn't touch the brake line. Street bobs should have 12s from the factory. Might wanna go with 16s
I do like the Southeast Customs mid glide. My only objection and something for you to consider is that they are only 1 inch diameter bars. I already find the stock bars too dinky looking. 1.25 -1.5 widths look way better on the newer SBs with fatter forks. 1 inch looks too small and look like bicycle handlebars on the beefy front end.
I'm still on my endless search for 1.5 bars (spent all my time on suspension prior). I Can't find anything like the Southeast Customs mid glide designs in a 1.5 width. (I totally agree these bars flow with the lines of the bike the best).Gluck
coulda swore mine had stock 12s but I guess I could be wrong.
No worries. I am not entirely sure. On Harley's website it shows 8-3/4" but i thought i measured about 10" from riser to top of bend. I was not sure if the 8-3/4 was to the grip vs. Top of bend?
Do you know if the 12" and 14" is measured to the top of the bend or to the drop of the grip?
