Default Deer Whistles
With reading the two posts about folks unknowingly deer hunting while on there bikes has anyone put the deer whistles on there bike? Do they even work or are they a novelty item?

I had a deer whistle on my bike that my insurance company gave me when I hit a deer a couple of years ago.

I'm a LEO. I have worked many, many deer/auto accidents where the car had deer whistles on it. The driver's always point out their whistles and how they must not work.

They work great....for the people who sell them. Being an auto appraiser for many of my 25+ working years, I can't tell you how many deer collisions I inspected that had the whistles on them. My opinion, worthless, unless you sell them.

supposedly they only work at higher speeds, so cruising around 40-50 will not make them do what they are supposed to do. I think the loud rumble of pipes works best. When I drive by birds or dogs, the birds flock away and the dogs look up and start walking away.

But in short, I dont think the whistles work.

I read a report in Consumers Digest once.......they dont work, they just make money

I read a comparison test in Motorcycle Cruiser magazine, where they tried out five or six deer whistles.

Their conclusion was, basically, they don't work.
