Default Ok, What has happened?

The wife and I are stationed here in Germany and make the run from Wiesbaden to Kaiserslautern on Autobahn 63 quite a lot to take her to the Dr., and to go to the Exchange at Ramstein AFB. Now unlike what most people think there are speed limits on the Autobahns in many areas. A-63 how ever is pretty open except for the road construction areas. When we get in the cage and head that direction I just point the VW and GO. The VW hits the fuel cutoff at about 125 MPH. Now I don’t usually drive THAT fast, but even at those speeds I have watch out for the Audi Diesel station wagons passing me like I'm doing 30 in a 70 zone in the left lane.

Well yesterday was nice and we decided to go to Ramstien on the bike. I got through a construction zone and was passing a line of cars doing about 80 MPH when a Mercedes runs up on me and starts pushing me. So I'm looking for a good opening around this line of cars and push the bike up to about 105MPH. Now I have been a LOT faster than that in a cage and on a bike, and the bike was just as stable as could be and the wife was just as quiet in the intercom. Guys something has happened to me...lol I wasn’t scared for myself or my wife on the back. I just couldn’t see the point in needing to go that fast anymore.

Now before you start making old jokes, I'm only 42, so don’t start that.

Normal. Your also a little de-sensitized due to the non- shalance in regards to speed in europe.

Sounds to me like common sense has kicked in. When a person is young, they are going to live forever, and nothing is ever going to happen, but as we grow older, we realize, if we crash, its going to hurt.

100+ on a bike is way to fast for me. I've been 85-88 on mine and that was enough.

It's called "The Zone" or at least that's what I call it.

You get to "that speed" where the engine is singing' that special note that sounds pleasant to you, the bike feels cozy (kinda "swoopy"). Sometimes you're at speed, sometimes you're not. It's hard to describe, but you know when you're there........ ENJOY.....And, welcome to "the club"

Best wishes.....and thank you for your service! Tim(HT)

I like 85 or 90. any faster and it is just too hard to hold on for longer than about 15 minutes. besides that go 100 here in montana and get busted its a big deal. Go 90 and no body cares. Been over 100 a couple of times and that was enough for me. And yes crashing hurts LOL.

Is that a US Spec VW? Took off the governor on my GIT with a APR ECU flash when I upgraded my Turbo (400hp gets you way past 125mph trust me lol). APR is in Europe. I agree speed is retaliative on what you are used too.
