Grip question
I bought a set of grips a while back off a forumn member and i really like them. But i now wanna change handle bars and wonder what is the best way to try and get the left handle bar off my old grip off without messing them up. I used the supplied glue kuryakyn sends with there grips. Hate to have to replace the grips again but the stock apes have to go. Should have waited to put them on huh? Ha
You could try WD-40; once you've got the switch housing pulled away you may be able to spray under the grip. Use a twisting motion to see if you can break the glue loose. I've had good luck twisting the grips off using 99% alcohol in a squeeze bottle to dissolve the glue. You may be able to break them loose with compressed air as well; just hold on to the grip, though
I never use the glue; I use blue painters tape and wrap it at the end of the grip next to the switch housing. I add a few wraps of tape on the bars and keep test fitting until the grip is snug; when you tighten the switch housing the grip stays in place without rotating but you can easily remove it should you want to later...

Saturate w/ WD..., then use the below
It'll blow em right off - easily

If you don't have a blow gun - small screw driver and a hellofalot of patience working the screwdriver around the grip to loosen it off - after they've been saturated
Mineral spirits / lacquer thinner also works for loosening the glue - but take extra precaution to keep the lacquer thinner off the rest of the bike
Once removed - clean out/ off the old glue
btw - hairspray works as a good glue..., when re-glueing - and it easier to remove if needed

I normally insert a very small screw driver, then make a circular motion all the way around while pulling at the grip. I never use glue (ever), instead I use electrical tape wrapping a candy-cane pattern on the area where the grips go. Don't wrap it very close or your it will be too tight, your not wrapping it like an exhaust wrap but like a red stripe on a candy cane. Works well and you won't have this problem in the future should you need to take the grip off again.

do the remove switch, thin screw driver under grip and squirt in starter fluid Quick start, ether). replace the wide spry nozzle on can with nozzle and tube from WD40 can. Ether also great for sliding grip on, evaporates quickly. Better than brake cleaner for oil clean up too, non toxic.
