Default eBay engines?

anyone have any experience with used 96/103 engines from eBay? I only need it for the crankcase assembly. I'll have crank work/bearings/machining done for a 117 stage 4 build. What do you think of the engines and that idea? Thank you.

lt's eBay, you may get a bargain but you could waste a lot of money too.
lf you're spending money building a high output engine, why skimp on the cases?

If you're going to tear it down completely to do the crank, then you should probably be OK.

Unless of course the cases are busted....but that's way less likely than the engine just being a bit hard used.

I guess it comes down to how much you can get a whole engine for vs. just a set of new cases.

Seems like the prices are pretty much the same. A new 96/103 short lock from Harley is about 1600, seems like way too much money either way I go. I know I know, horsepower doesn't come cheap lol

By the way, yes I will be tearing it down completely, sending it to dark horse to have the crank work done, I'm not sure which bearings I'm goin to use (timken, t-man) I still have to research that so I'm open to suggestion, but I want this to be able to handle as much hp/tq as I want. In a nutshell, my plan is to have the lower end beefed up, I want to do the stage 4 tire shredder kit (the HD kit for 103 to 110 which includes CNBC ported/polished heads, cams, injectors, throttle body, etc) then I want to sell the 110 Pistons/cylinders, and buy 117 Pistons/cylinders, and build a stage 4 117. I'll have to have the case bored to fit the 117 cylinders anyway. I've changed my mind on my build a couple times because I didn't want to have crank work done and void my warranty or have my bike down for 2 months (I ride year round, so not having my bike is a big problem for me) so be finally made my decision on exactly what build I want, and decided to do it the right way with crank work and bearings. This way I'll still have my factory 110 in case I ever have a problem, or for long rides out of state.
