Tall and torn between FB and WG
Perfect example, when I'm on my dads heritage, my knees are quite a bit higher than the gas tank and bars are real low....makes me "feel" like I'm too big for the bike, even though I'm not that uncomfortable on it.
Member, "Tall Timber" is around 6'7", iirc.
I'm 6'7" and currently ride a Fat Bob.
I previously had a street bob with apes and forwards controls.
You'll need to change the seat and bars as a bare minimum:
Seat
- The Fat Bob will not fit you out of the box as the seat pushes you forward.
- The Wide glide will fit out of the box, but the seat gets mixed opinions. It's the same as the street bob seat (Which I didn't like both for looks and comfort).
Bars
- The Fat Bob bars are tilted too low, I've rotated mine and added 1" spacers
- The Wide Glide bars are wider and are a nicer reach but still not high enough
- Fixed T-bars will not allow any bar rotation so they'll be in your face, If you want T's look into high risers with seperate bars.
- If going down the Apes route I'd say 14-16" is the sweet spot.

In terms of choosing between the two it's pretty easy, will you be cruising or riding aggressively? Out of the box the fatty will do both, the wide glide will with some $$$ thrown at it (More brakes, fatter front tyre etc)
Are you planning on changing lots of things? The WG probably has a better selection for wheels, the fatty no so but just as customisable in other ways.
Nice looking FB there, I liked the SB as well.
Got the grandparents watching little man, hopefully will be able to spend the whole day tomorrow looking at bikes.
Small thing to add, not sure how much it matters, but I will occasionally have a passenger. My wife never would ride with me before but apparently there's a few people she works with getting into it. I was showing her some pics last night and she kept asking if there'd be room for her....

On my old bike I had the Mustang Pillion seat if I needed to carry a passenger. Now I also have a 2015 BMW R1200GS Adventure, it's my two up bike so the fatty is strictly solo. But there were never any complaints from pillions on the mustang.

36" ish (I think)
In theory i'd be better with extended forward controls. I never felt my street bob needed them. Forwards fit me like mids fit most peeps.

This will be such a subjective and personal decision that in reality it's one that only you can make. My opinion is going to be obviously the Wide Glide, someone else will say Fatbob and we'll end up using the basic same reasoning behind our choices. You best option will be if at all possible is to do a test ride on each of them to discover for yourself what's the more appropriate bike for you.
The Wide Glide with her front end does require a bit more finesse at slow speed and with the more limited lean angles you'll need to alter your corner entry technique somewhat to account for that but it's nothing that can't be easily overcome with practice and a bit of time with the bike.
You posted this is your first bike, ownership of a motorcycle is the easier part but learning to ride well takes time and practice. Motorcycling is a learned skill, make certain to invest in upgrading yourself as well as which ever bike you eventually ride. Training courses, developing an understanding of motorcycling techniques, and practicing those techniques will pay huge dividends and truly improve your motorcycling experience.
