I have both a Fat Bob and a Wide Glide. I am 5' 8"
The Fat Bob is a much better bike to ride - sticks like glue (with Avon tires) and fits me better. My knees are up much higher on the Wide Glide.
However - I should also disclose that the Wide Glide is a 1980 and the Fat Bob is a 2014. I guess people were smaller back in the '80s.....
Seriously though, when I bought the Fat Bob, i looked at both WGs and Fat Bobs and just preferred the Fat Bob because of it's no-nonsense approach and dual front disks with ABS.
My 1980WG has dual disks - but the 2014 one didn't!
But you can't go wrong with either bike, although I would say the FB is more function that form compared to the WG.
I'm 6'8 and around 350lbs.. I sat on a bunch of bikes and ended up with a 2016 Wide Glide that I bought this past October. I had them do the 12 inch mini apes and did the tallboy seat.. I love the seat but may change it due to it putting me higher up like you said, but it did bring me back further which is nice.
Also stock forward controls is really nice. This is my first bike I've ever owned and I have found the handling to be good. I will prolly end up going to one size larger front tire though just for added stability.
A lot of good info here and a few things brought to light that I hadn't thought about previously.
Waiting on the weather to turn decent so I can put some more miles on em befor I make up my mind.
Wife is really throwing a wrench in this...really acting like she wants to ride a lot. Never thought she would be into it but is actually acting almost excited as I am. I guess we both kinda need something new and fresh. Her interest is pushing me away from the dyna family and more towards a bigger bike that she would be more comfortable on.
Damn this never ends does it....decisions decisions
Gotta Fat Bob and love it. It handles awesome.
My buddy has a Wide Glide like Tin Cups and I think its the best looking HD made.
You can't go wrong with either but I'm not tall dude.
Big as you are and if it sounds like you are going to be hauling the wife all the time you might look at a Road King or Street Glide
Found a couple of RK private sells at what sounds like really good prices. Going to try and check them out this weekend.
Will have a dyna one day, but may go ahead with a bigger bike right now. Think my wife would be much more likely to get into the riding lifestyle if she's comfortable.
Who knows what will happen...
Thanks again for all the replies, a lot of good info to think about here.
Hardly ever see any dynas around here. Sportsters, Heritages and Street Glides are probably 80%+ that I see.
Your current FB and past SB are both badass bikes, I'd proudly own either.
Same here. I've seen one SB on the road in the last 2 years (besides mine) and it was near the dealer. Never seen a fatbob or wide glide.. mostly baggers, an occasional Victory and then rice.
Height simply has nothing to do with the bike choice. Fitment is a separate issue.
You sure? Being vertically challenged I cannot ride a fb comfortably nor a low rider or a wide glide. Without the extensions on the forward controls, I'd be riding a mid shift bike heel shifting and braking.
