First time.... Last time...
This past fall when I put the bikes away, I did one thing I haven't done since the fall of '03. So I usually put the fuel stabilizer in the tank, go to the gas station get gas. I usually turn the petcock off and let the bike (02 Carbed) run itself dry. In the spring, turn on the gas at the petcock, and coax the engine to life. Well today after letting the float bowl sit full since mid-Nov., turned the fuel on and cranked and cranked on the engine. Using the flooded engine start technique, throttle wide open, it finally started. Two minutes later there was gas coming out of the carb like a dam burst. Seems the float cruded up, cleaned it and put it back together. Ran engine at idle for 10 minutes and a few twists of the throttle. Lesson learned, run the carb dry prior to storage. Back in '06 I tuned the carb for a stage 2. One thing that helped today was replacing the stock float bowl Philip screws with some allen head screws (4x12mm) that take a 3mm allen wrench. Just thought I would pass the allen screw tip along. First fuel leak since the purchase in the spring of '03.

One of the many reasons I love fuel injection.....seriously though, glad it was an easy fix.
