07 SB has 1100mi. on it and have recently noticed that the clutch lever does not return all the way back like it should. meaning I have to give it a little push forward so it will return to correct position. Is it slack in the cable from strectching(being new) or is clutch out of adjustment? I didnt mess with clutch assy. when I did my 1000mi service. Probably have to let clutch lever out about half way or so before bike starts to move. Do I just need to take slack out with adjustment under the rubber boot or pull inspection cover and adjust the clutch? I do have a manual. But how much release on lever is correct? thanks in advance!
Dan,
It's all in the manual and the adjusment is under the rubber boot.
About a 5 min job - don't have the manual in front of me - but I think you adjust so there is about 1/8" free.
adjusting the cable under the rubber boot only adjusts the lever free-play To adjust the clutch correctly you must go into the derby cover and adjust the clutch there. Being you only have 1100 miles on your bike, the free play is probly the only thing you need to adjust, cables tend to stretch a tad when new and breaking in.
I was at the dealer this week and asked that same question. I was told to adjust it so there was between 1/16th and 1/8th play in the lever. Make the adjustment under the boot.
I'm on my second adjustment on my 07 with 2300 miles on her. Asked the stealer about it and he said thats normal. I know I don't ride the clutch so I hope he's right
