Mchad, I have an 09 fatbob and have intermitten hot start issues too I sort of gave up on and just manage... But to truly test out what you think fixed it, I'd park outside a bar with the bike hot, have 3 good looking ladies come out and a couple buddies watch you start it - this scenario almost guarantee's mine will do it! hahaha.
yep. I walk out of the hardware store once, super cute nurse is standing next to the bike. I walk up, she tells me how awesome it looks and how she misses hers etc. We trade some more pleasantries (and I'm wondering why this kind of luck doesn't occur when I'm single). I get on, she walks away, gives me an over the shoulder glance, the bike kicks back, farts out the intake and she laughs. If I could have crawled and hid in my saddle bag I would have....
I have been following this thread from the beginning because I have the same issue with hot starts. I actually retarded the low RPM timing as suggested (OP post #45). I'm dying to see how it acts over the next several rides ... but ... yep there's always a but. What do you all think about the possibility that the starting issue is at least in part due to shitty injectors? I've smelled gas several times on shutdown in closed spaces and just keep wondering if part of the hot start issue isn't because the cylinders are flooded on shutdown. That might answer why the issue only happens when hot starting shortly after shutdown like at a gas stop ... thoughts? Has anyone changed their injectors and noticed if that also fixed hot starts?
Late May update: While my ACRs were marked as "on" in my tunes, there are hidden control values that were making them less or not at all effective. In mid-may, HD released an updated tune for the 14+ 110se motors on Softails and the LRS that dramatically improves starting, with an added, pronounced "click" of the ACRs opening on power on. Everyone who has this tune is reporting the end of hard starts. Excellent. One thing to note, you have to be aware this flash update will overwrite any improved tune you have (dyno jet PV, etc.) so you'll need to mod it.
I am taking my 07 with the 2014 103HO in to have my ACR activated, I am also installing a Baker compensator, my starter his a higher torque starter supposedly from a Police model???
I hope it fixes my hot start grinding but I might ask Fuel moto fir a retarded timing map.
Hey Mchad..
I ran across this post of yours when searching for solutions to the starter kickback I've got going on with this T124HC kit. I bought the bike used. I've been working with the PV and DJ sent me a tune but it's way too aggressive compared to what was current. The bike has devoured three starter drives and two ring gears in the last two weeks... I've been reducing table values down to Zero in the areas you suggested, and did actually drop them into the negative this morning, but the damage was done yesterday. So wondering if you'd be willing to send me a screenshot of your spark tables.

He no longer has that bike. I would get a hold of S&S for assistance.
