Viking Bags for Dyna FXDB build!
So since spring and the road trips season approaching, I was actively looking at different Hard bags options to mount on my Dyna, as I wasn't gonna risk damaging my fresh custom paint job by strapping bags to my struts and fender when riding long trips and after some much needed researched here's the option I picked : the Viking Bags lamellar with extra large shock cutouts (#12214) : https://www.vikingbags.com/lamellar-...12214-prd1.htm
I found them through this : https://www.vikingbags.com/motorcycl...saddlebags.htm
I wanted to share my experience for those who might be in the same situation looking for hard bags options.
I picked those bags for 3 main different reasons :
- They look awesome (Came already painted gloss black like I wanted)
- Have large shocks cutout to fit my Progressive 970's and their piggy backs
- They are price fairly!
The pricing of some sets of hard bags is ridiculous and a huge turnoff and after all we all prefer to throw money on performance related parts than bags this set of hard bags is very affordable but not cheap at all, solid quality and finishes (Around $450 including hardware)
I mounted them as soon as they arrived, hardware is included.
Fair warning, you will need to drill a few 1/8 holes, This allows you to mock up and fit the bags exactly the way you want. In case you have different shocks and/or accessories.
It took me 10' to mock up and drill the pattern so they fit exactly the way I needed so in my opinion, it's a positive aspect because we all have different builds with the same model.
Even after measurements online before ordering, I was a little bit anxious as if they would fit my piggy back shocks because they stick a lot and I was pleasantly surprised with the fact they cleared perfectly so I didn't have to turned them around (Which I think looks stupid) So another positive aspect.
The construction of these bags is very solid, the inside is weatherproofed, lined with solid material and they will fit a lot of things (I'd say about 1.5 carry on suitcase)
Which is plenty for a spontaneous few days adventures trip.'
They are rated for 11lbs each, but as soon as I mounted them my 20+lbs Savannah Cat
As far as the main problem with most universal bags (rattling) once I secured them properly, took the hog for a test ride and didn't get any rattling problem.
Another great positive side is that I was able to mount them on top of the HD quick detach docking hardware which allows me to mount my detach sissy bars and the bags at the same time.
I will most likely leave the bags on permanently as I really love the look of the build with them.
I'm attaching some photos so you can get an visual idea.
I'm extremely happy with these set of bags and I highly recommend them, if you have any questions just let me know I'd be happy to help.
Little update : Unfortunately I started to type this review as soon as I installed them but last thursday before I got a chance to publish it, I got rear ended by a typical distracted LA driver at an intersection, I'm in one piece just bruised, roads rash and pulled muscles, but my bike has some nasty damages including one of the bags. She'll be back better and stronger and I will definitely reorder a set for my rebuild!

More importantly, the pic with the cat is perfect. Suede Blue (another user here), is a dog guy but I'm sure he'll agree that any pic with a pet is a good pic!
Glad to hear that you're ok. Ride safe.
