Default ZOMG it's another seat thread batman (with a difference..)

My question is what solo seat would make for the best pan to base a custom seat off of.

I have a seat style in mind, no seat manufacturers make what I want so I want to buy a an aftermarket solo, strip it make it into what I want.

I know my mustang is fibre glass, from memory the le pera I had was steel? (Or maybe it was fibreglass too...) which seat pan materials are best to form the base for a custom seat build.

In terms of shape I basically want the low and back position of the Le Pera Bare Bones but the width of the Mustang wide tripper.

Pics of what i'm thinking of (minus tribal designs)

My LePera has a steel pan. The factory seat was molded ABS.

If the barebones has the basic shape you want except for some width, I'd think welding some "wings" to either side would fairly simple. It would allso leave the mounting points ready to rock.

Fiberglass is popular for custom pans. Lay it down right on the (well protected) bike. That's how Pete did the first Pintail.

Hell, even wood can work. Once you get the foam on it and shaped, the pan kinda goes away.

Hi Tall Timber
Danny Gray uses fiberglass on their conventional seats, I don't know what they use on the IST seats. I own a Danny Gray " Big Seat" solo and a Lepera "Silhouette" solo, The Big Seat is good for 700 miles a day and is without a doubt the most comfortable seat I have ever used. The Lepera is going to get rebuilt by the guy that recontoured the seats on my MX bikes (short legs, long torso), it will be the first time in 20 years that I have asked him to build me a taller seat...
