Default Grip question when replacing bars?

Alrigh... I was then wasn't going to replace my bars, going to a gunslinger seat made the 12 inch bars more comfortable, but gunslinger hurt the ***! So I went back to my Mustang seat which is comfortable and now the bars are eh'.
I'm going to a 14 inch bars and want to know how to get my existing grips off the bars? My left grip I know has a poxy in it and is going to be an issue. The grips are comfortable to the hands and I guess I'm wanting to be cheap since I know I'm going to need a new riser too *** my current bars slip on a regular basis everytime I hit a bump...

Thanks

I doubt they are epoxied on if that is what you mean. Most likely grip glue. You may have to uncheap yourself and get new grips, as you'll have to get a screwdriver under the glued on one and either get solvent under it, or mechanically break the bond, and the grips usually don't survive that process without stretching or taking damage. It probably won't be able to be reinstalled. IMO grips are pretty important, wouldn't want something loose on there...

Get a syringe - the big kind a vet would use on a horse - fill it with mineral spirits (mineral spirits only)

Separate the grip a wee bit from the bar - then squirt the mineral spirits in

May take a bit for it to loosen the grip..., may take repeated applications

But the grips will come off - unharmed..., and reusable

Lay rags underneath to soak up any run off

Nothing lost by trying. Just be prepared to buy replacements.

Strap wrench. Compressed air. Heat. Patience.

Rubber grips? Easy

When you do install the left grip you don't need to use any sort of adhesive; I use blue tape wrapped around the bar up against the switch housing, I keep wrapping the tape and test fitting the grip. When the grip is snug on the tape once you tighten up the switch housing the grip won't move and makes removing the left grip a simple process after that...

slide skinny screwdriver inside grip, squirt in quick start (ether), as grip comes loose move screwdriver around grip, repeat until completely loose. Ether is all I use to re-install grip, never had one slip.

WD40 between grip & bar, twist & slide.

Most likely I will try all until the grips come off.. I have the Kuryakyn grips and their not cheap to replace. They feel good in the hand.

Any chemicals you use trying to remove it will also make it less likely to bond when you reattach/glue it back on.

I'd spend the $$ on new. Unless they are made from unicorn tears or something?
