Default 2013 Switchback Upgrade Question

I just bought a 2013 Dyna Switchback with 7,200 miles on it. Besides a few cosmetic improvements it doesn't really have any performance upgrades. It does have a Screaming Eagle slip on exhaust. I do want to finish the entire stage one upgrade.

My question is:

Should I keep the slip on or take it off and do a full aftermarket exhasust replacement along with a new air cleaner element and the tuner, and get it dyno tuned?

Also depending on if I keep the slip on or not what parts would you recommend in both scenarios?

Thanks,

Kash

Congrats on your buy! I have always had a fondness for the switchbacks, I seriously thought I was getting one too, such a versatile bike.

If your not planning on anything other than the stage one upgrade, I would definitely go with a new air cleaner and also a tuner. You could go the Dyno route, or do what I did and get a fuel moto micro tuner. They are well priced and fuel moto will provide the maps for your mods. See how its running with the slip ons and the appropriate tune and then decide if you want a full system.

The performance mods on my 2016 Switchback include a Vance and Hines slip on, a de-catted head pipe, a Power Vision tune, a Screaming Eagle breather and the Clevis Pin modification. Once I got the stock head pipe sans cat, I didn't see any reason for a full exhaust system, or a cam change, because my 2016 has the High Output cams from the factory. For my riding, the Switchback is the best HD I've owned. It's got plenty of power and minimal vibration after the Clevis Pin mod.

if i keep the slip on and complete the stage one kit to include getting it dyno tuned and then I decide that I want the full exhaust would I have to get it dyno tuned again? I do plan to little by little get the stages done. It all depends on the $ it will cost

how bad was your vibration? I thought mine was bad because at 79MPH on the highway my mirrors were pretty fuzzy and my feet were tingling on the floor boards. Yesterday I rode it on normal roads about 60MPH and my mirrors had clear focus and the vibration didn't feel that bad.

I have read a lot about the clevis pin and from what I have heard a full exhaust should solve the problem. Obviously the clevis pin is way cheaper though. I am just worried about using the clevis pin though.

My vibration was somewhat annoying after my performance mods because the bike rev'd so freely. The front clamp and rear bolt are really what secure the muffler. That center bolt is kind of a safety feature so the clevis pin will still keep the muffler from falling off which is a VERY remote possibility anyway.

I think for optimum performance you would re tune after each mod unless you do all mods at once. Thats why I went with the cheaper micro tuner from fuel moto, After any mods I do I can just put a new tune on with a quick download they provide. I was really impressed with them, I didnt even buy the unit from them and instead bought it from a member here. They quickly sent the relevant tunes for my mods and you can then fine tune it with a screwdriver for a little more or less air/fuel ratios.

One other thing I would do in addition to the AC upgrade is an atmospheric venting or catch can setup, keep all that hot oily air out of your intake.

Thats excellent advice and what I did to mine to help further with cooling the engine after the tune/map
