Default Exhaust Options: Gutted SE2 Slip Ons w/ TTI vs. New Slip Ons

I have a 2000 FXDL that came with Screamin Eagle II Slip ons that were gutted so I bought a set of DK Custom TTIs, the W158s and put in. They quieted them down and took away the raspy exhaust note, didnt notice the bike running much different but it didnt run poorly to start with. The TTIs look a bit small inside the 3" muffler so I'm wondering if I would be better off to go up to the larger W258s? Or, should I just pony up for a new set of slip ons? Cobra makes the RPT slip ons that look really nice and they're reasonably priced, about $275. Decisions, decisions......thanks in advance.

Depends on your goals and budget. What are you trying to accomplish?

I'm not concerned with the cost difference between the two (or 3) options. I'm prepared to spend the $275 if thats the best option but i'm not looking to drop hundreds on a full system, etc. I'm looking to get a little deeper exhaust note and a little more bottom end. Like i said before, the doesn't run bad but if there's some improvement to be had, I'd like to get it.

The W158's are too small for your 3" exhaust. I'd try the W258's; better fitment and you should have better results. And they're just a bit cheaper than a new set of Cobra's Worth a try before you spend the longer dollars on a new exhaust.

The TTI fitment guide HERE

Correct exhaust fitment:

I wondered about this after I put them in but never explored it much since DK recommended these. I emailed them and told them what i had and they recommended the W158s. Not sure if I want to give them any more of my money......

While I can't speak to what happened with DK, if your exhaust is a 3" the W258's would be the better option. The W258's are 2 5/8" in diameter which will more correctly fit and give you better results. Might be worth the few dollars to try them before you buy a new exhaust.

I'm running the W158's in my Big Shots Staggered pipes; the W118's would have been too small. The W158's in my pipes:

You've got the stock head pipes with crossover, correct? If so, I wouldn't get your hopes up for much more bottom end. The stock headers are actually quite good once you get free-flowing mufflers and good tune happening.

Yes, still have the stock headpipes with crossover.

Just my opinion, I would sell the older screamin eagle 2,s on fleabay, you can still get good money for them, and get a new set of Cobras, easier and cheaper option.
