Yeah that's my gig too, I didn't want to completely trash the re-sale value of my bike by making a permanent change.
It's a shame that Kenny55 want's to do a hack job on a brand new bike.
Buyer; "So Kenny, how did you change to forwards with this bike?" Kenny;
" Used a hack saw,, " Potential Buyer;
"Oh, Thanks for your time."
Yeah agreed. Seems a little brutal especially after having just purchased a brand new bike. I decided at this point to forgo the forwards and just install highway pegs.
Mine and Sparkalot's point is there are other options.
In my case the mid controls where just plain uncomfortable, sure highway pegs give ya the stretch,, but keeping my legs bent just to operate the bike actually hurt.
Kuryakyn makes this kit that includes everything needed including a cap and keeper clip for the mid-shaft; http://www.kuryakyn.com/products/220/forward-controls
I've run these for years now (the 9063 for short people) and I have participated in many group rides and charity runs,, in all that time only one person ever asked what that chrome covered shaft sticking out of the case was. That person was someone not at all familiar with bikes.
Hey guys I don't mean to hi jack the ost but I just picked up a mint Demin black street bob and want to do forward controls for leg room. The pegs and shifter are beautiful and would like to reuse them. What would I need to do/ buy? The brake side too.
The pegs and shifter are beautiful and would like to reuse them.
You usually have to supply your own pegs with all the kit's, but the actual Brake pedal and Shift lever have a significantly different angle for the foot/linkage connection.
When you move them out there, they have to be different to keep the linkage movement the same. If you try to use the original mid levers the foot pad is way to far forward for your foot to reach them and press down.
Get it?
I know what you mean about giving up a "nice" pedal or pegs etc.....had to give up a beauty of a nice forged and polished brake pedal when I installed forward controls..now I have a stamped black brake pedal......once in I while you may get lucky and find a replacement that looks good and has the same angles/geometry.....good excuse to keep scanning the classifieds here!
