I have a 2002 Wide Glide and have 1 1/4 bars..14 inched apes....would like to change to a lower bar...Can the cables be made to work or would I have to get new ones...
Depends how much lower you want to go. If it's only 2-3 inches I wouldn't worry about it but 4 or more is kind of pushing it. You don't want too much slack in it. You could always mount the bars and see how it looks from there. You might even be able to fabricate a line/cable retainer similar to the one on the top of the right side of the triple tree.

aka: Cable clamps, available from many suppliers.
Look close at this photo and you'll see the clamps I'm using (Drag Specialties) The throttle cables hung there nice while the bike was just sitting there but at speed they would swing way out,, the clamp holds both in place against the bar,, there's one for the Clutch cable too.
