So I have an '07 street bob that the previous owner put a wide glide front end with some rake in the trees and 27" fork tubes. I recently bought some mid-glide triples that I bought off a member on here and pulled the bike apart and went to install them but seem to be having some trouble. I'll throw up some pics to show what's happening. I have a gap when installing?? Could it be that the wide glide front end had larger bearings?
Is there any wiggle to it? There should be some sort of gap or you're rubbing the tree against the frame and will get some binding. How much I'm not sure. I'll take a look at mine when I get a chance. After checking mine yours looks right.
Looks normal. You have to have access to the preload adjuster nut between the neck and top tree. I think the gap looks dumb, but that's how they're designed.
So ran into another problem trying to replace the sliders and the damn seat pipe screw is just spinning and won't come out so I can change the sliders and fork seals.

The screw at the bottom of the fork right? When this happens at the shop usually just slide loading the inner tube a little and then popping the screw with an impact gun works. Sometimes you also need to pop it with the impact gun to get it tight again. I'm assuming you already have the springs out right? Whats happening is as you loosen it the damper rod is starting to lose contact with the bottom of the tube so its just spinning with the bolt.
Just remember though it's not a lug nut so don't ride it with the gun just a short burst or two normally does it.
