My friend just put this tire on his BMW and HE LOVES IT!!! it is a great tire and has some awesome reviews! Metzeler Roadtec Z6 180/55/17... will this work on my bob. it is soft on the sided and hard in the middle for touring. I just do not want to buy it and be S.O.L. when it does not fit as they are pretty $$$... thanks!
It all depends on what you meen by will it work. Yes you could mount it to you rim and it would fit and yes it would roll down the road. But the question that should be asked is it going to give me optimal perfomance, is it rated for my bike. Based on these questions i would say no. It is a sport touring tire that is designed for lighter bikes. Also i think your friends rim is wider than yours and the tire you are refering to is designed for a 5.5 inch rim. I would go with the metzler me880 170 60 17, check out the mezler web page.
Before you give up on the Metz Roadtec, check out some of the laced wheel manufacturers out there. Some have an option to seal the inside of their wheels where the spokes attach. This allows the use of tubeless / radial tires on your bike.
Also, at least one claims to support up to a 200mm tire on '06/'07 Dynas without mods. I believe it is only for a particular tire aspect and wheel combination tho. Any wider than 200mm tho and you're looking at quite a large investment in money and time.
Personally, I like your idea of the 180/55 Roadtec because it will lower the bike about a 1/2" without giving up suspension travel. If you do manage to fit that tire, please post some pics and let us know how it handles.
