I'm experiencing a bizarre electrical issue with my 2006 FXDI. The red alarm key warning light is coming on sporadically. It will illuminate when I first hit the right turn signal. The red key warning light will go off while the right turn signal is being used and then come back on. It hasn't affected the functionality of the turn signal, alarm or the bike. Some history: I did do a bar swap quite a few months ago. I was able to use the same factory wiring harness, just removed the connectors to facilitate feeding the wires inside the handlebars. The wiring did get a little tight around the frame connection but I didn't observe any problems after the bar install. Unrelated to the bar install , I've always had some problems getting the handlebars to lock. I'm wondering if any of these issues could be related.
Anyone have any similar problems or thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Any wire that's tight... will rub through because of vibration. ... or repeated pull against a metal object... like when you park and turn your bars.
If the wire is tight enough to keep you from turning the bars enough to lock them... then you need to unwire and take your bars off and add some length to those wires.
I've always had some problems getting the handlebars to lock.
I'm wondering if any of these issues could be related.

Wire shorting out
Flaky ground
Corroded pins / connectors
Loose connections
Switch going bad
ECM going on the fritz
Start at what's acting up - verify both hot (signal) and grnd feeding it - move to the next component / plug / switch / wiring - verify that..., on to the next - repeat
Isolate..., test/ check / clean / tighten /..., eliminate - move to the next possible source
Could it be the wiring in the bars - sure..., but it could also be a couple dozen other things
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. My rear right turn signal wire was bad. A look under the fender revealed some exposed wire. It appeared that some of the wire insulation had been rubbed away. Re-wired the turn signal, all better now. Thanks again!
Don't forget to test all of your grounds too. I'd actually suggest load testing the wires (I prefer to use a brake light bulb over a test light). I have seen weak grounds back feed through other circuits on rare occasions.
