Hey gang, I am a Marine currently in Iraq and I have purchased my first Harley through their military overseas program and will take delivery when I return home after the holidays. Looking forward to riding again. I bought my first bike, Vulcan 800 Classic two years ago, but I am ready to move up and get my Harley! I am on the waiting list for a denim black 'Bob' but currently have a two tone red/black Low Rider reserved. Would like some comments on forward controls, the new six speed, and whether or not the 'Bob' will be suitable for two up riding or if I should stick with my Low Rider? Hope everyone is doing well and riding safe.
Howdy Brandon, welcome to the forum. I like both bikes, but I'm not an authority on which one would be better for what you want to do. I ride solo, and I really like the new Bobber. I hope that someone can come along with more knowledge that can answer your questions. Hope that you make it safely home after the holidays.
p.s. there are a few people here that have already gotten the new Bobber, hopefully one of them will chime in and help you out.
Brandon, I love the Street Bob! In my opinion, it is the best looking stock 06 HD. But, since I don't own one, I can't answer your questions. I have heard of others doing 400 mile days on Dynas two up. I have a Sportster right now, and my wife gets tired after about 150 miles, and that is why we are buying a new ride soon. I am sure others here can help you out more than I. Please keep us updated on what you get, and please make it home safe.
John
So you either got some cool folks at your TOC or the MWR is set up right.....either way good to see you can get online.
I spent all of 2003 in Nasiryiah....near Talil Air Base. Hope you are doing well wherever you are and simply embracing the suck and looking forward to getting home to your bike.
I almost purchased my 03' FXDL though the overseas program but when I got word to my local dealer that I was gonna go that route [simply out of courtesy as I had been shopping with them from afar], they made me too good a deal on an un-opened LowRider.
Man what a homecoming....my wife and a new Harley............talk about an emotional reunion/introduction...ha.....we've logged over 17,000 on the Low since Dec 03.
Take care brother...and um, splat a camel spider for me.......I sure don't miss sleeping with those buggers.

Personally, I'm not a fan of forward controls - but that's just me. (However, I do like being able to stretch my legs out on longer rides.) Between the new clutch and the new tranny, you're in for a real treat. You're gonna LOVE the way it shifts!
On a side note, thanks for what you're doing over there - and get yourself home safe!
As a DYNA Superglide owner, I'll second the opinion that either will be great!!! Keep in mind on the lowrider, you get alot of chrome, on the street bob, not as much.....I'm 6'2, and before I put the forward controls on, my legs strated cramping up after about 50-75 miles.[&o]
my PERSONAL opinion, get a Superglide and use the difference in money to change bars, seat etc. otherwise get either one that is cheaper!!! i.e. gonna need a windscreen, sissy bar for the wife, bags, etc.
I just noticed your looking at the black denim and just wanna make you aware its suppose to fade like denim you must take alot of care to keep the paint nice any rubs on the paint will look tarnished not alot of people know this before they purchase so I just wanted you to know a little fyi
oh and my friend has a bob and a heavy wife he rides two up all the time with her and they have no complaints
