Default Dyna FXDX 2000 ERROR Code 41

Hey guys, haven't been around in a while, guess that means things were going great until this weekend. Took ride to KAGAMANGUS HIGHWAY in from Canada and had the bike Stall on me (simply stalled) while riding. Got it started again as if nothing had happened then 20 minutes later stalled again. As if no more SPARK. Got it started again. This happened all day long (18 times). At one point on way back to Canada (Didn't want to pay towing). I fiddled with the wiring on right side of bike, under engine, starting from right side of Oil Filter. Got it started again and managed to make it all the way home without any incident. The next day checked for error codes, got error 41 which is CRANKSHAFT POSTION SENSOR. From what I can see it is the sensor on the left side of motor just in front of OIL Filter. Tried to recreate the problem but no dice. Check the wiring as best I could but cannot see and split wiring anywhere. Have taken a good part of bike apart and now realize that taking wiring out will be a job. Before I go ahead and change the CRANKSHAFT Position Sensor, would like to know if there is no other possible cause for ERROR 41. Don't want to take everything apart and realize I changed the wrong part and have to start over again.

Thanks, any input is appreciated.

The error code can get set buy simply stalling the motor.. The ignition module simply senses the loss of crank position signal.. It could be the crank sensor getting weak, but it could also be a simple fuel / electrical problem causing a stall and throwing that code.

I recently went through a CKP sensor failure on my 2000 FXD. In your service manual it will detail which connection is the CKP sensor wiring (under the seat). You need to disconnect the Deutsch connector that the CKP sensor wiring plugs into. Using a multi-meter check the voltage coming from the CKP sensor while cranking. Maximum is 5 Volts...I saw 2.7 V on mine and it was bad. Another thing I'd do is take out the CKP sensor from the case and clean the magnet well...reinstall and see if that makes a difference.

Will check the magnet, easy to do and will check the voltage.
Will get back to you.

Thanks for the input
