Building up a Wide Glide from "scratch"

My time has come. I'm going to have a Harley, a Dyna Wide Glide. Since i was kid i kept photos, info, all harley related stuff as close as possible and now with a regular income ( not much, but still an income
) it's time i get one.The only thing is that i wanted to build one with my father since i no longer live with him and it should be a cool father/son project..well i spoke to him about this and he agreed right away eheh.
First problem: i'm not a mechanic expert, not by far. My father nevertheless is but he never messed up with harleys so...any advices?
Second problem: What course of action should i follow?
I know this is a pretty "lame" question and a shoot in the dark but i've got to start somewhere. And for the past weeks i've been reading the forum ( although i just registered today ) and you people seem all very friendly so i poped the question
! Any ideas?
Thank you very much.
I will create a blog or i will keep a dailey updated post on how my harley adventure is going.
If i can build one, i can always buy one and start messing around with it.
Can't wait...really can't. Too long i've been waiting!
Ricardo!
English, as you by now found out, it's not my mother language...

I think financially you'd be better off just buying one. I understand the desire to build, it's a lot of fun. Perhaps a compromise would be best. Buy a bike that is in less than perfect condition, dismantle and rebuild a component at a time. That certainly would be easier especially the first time out.

And still i could call it my bike eh!
I lost contact with a german friend i had whose sport was to build harleys from scratch..had two amazing ones...well, guess it's not possible for everyone.
Thanks anyway!!
By the way, congrats on the "come back to life"..it's always hard when someone we like leave us.
The major cost is the motor and the trans, you can spend a lot of $$ as you start buying the little things also......just off the top of my head I can tell you I spent:
Tank = 900
Oil Tank = 450
Seat = 250
Forks = 700
Trees = 800
Brakes = 600
Clutch and Brake controls = 600
Foot controls = 900
so there is $6000 and thats just 30 seconds of thinking!!
You still have the wiring, ignition, charging system, fenders, paint, bearings, swing arm, rims, tires, and the big cost the engine...
I figure it cost me approx $17000 to build my bike from scratch, I had a great time (often frustrating) building it on my own.
I am actually going to build another one this coming winter.
