As most of you know by now, Harley made lots of changes for 2018, and for us, it means we have lots of work to do since none of the saddlebags we currently make will fit any of the 2018 models (except Sportys and we won't talk about that here).
Since we have to do lots of re-designing, I thought this would be a good time to ask for some input. We of course will be altering our retro T-Sport bags to fit the new models, but with the changes in the new struts, it is now possible to make a slightly smaller bag without having to relocate the turn signals or change the exhaust (except the Fat Bob, unless you just want to run one bag on the left side).
So we are asking you guys what do you think? Traditional leather bags with the straps, or a locking, latching lid without straps? Expandable Ballistic nylon with a leather lid like a mini T-Sport or a whole new design? Give us some ideas.
For the Fat Bob, I would like a single left hand side bag that fits without signal relocation. Ballistic nylon would be perfect to go with the more modern look of the bike.
Garry,
I hope that whatever designs you come up with, keeping the attachment mechanism would be paramount because there is no option out there that is better or faster. IMO
Get this garbage out of the dyna forum. Wrong forum. RIP dyna.
Right after I started this thread, I wondered if someone would say that. I think I will start a similar thread on the Softail forum. To the rest of you, thanks for the input. We WILL be using the same clamp on style bracket that we use on the Retros, but it looks different due to the hole spacing and lack of visible shocks. All other options are still open.
Garry,
First off i want to say that i love your bags, excellent quality etc.
As far a some ideas...
an inside zipper pockets or elastic pockets to organize small things that you don't want in the external small pocket or even some form of MOLLE system inside to organize tools etc.
zipper pulls would be nice, i know that the zippers are already massive but having a para-cord zipper pull helps also.
options to have either a ballistic nylon handle or leather
option for a pass through grommet for charging cables for phone, Powervision etc.
Just thinking out loud, i hope that this helps keep up the good work.
