Default Speedo relocation?

I accidentley posted this thread in the sportster forum so this is my second attempt lol.

Hello, im interested in a street bob. I have been looking around. Oh, a 2017 by the way. But i would like to relocate the speedometer on the bars. Somewhere more visible so i do not have to look down to much while riding. Has anyone done this?

From this, stock,....

To this....

seems to be happening a lot lately. The misplaced posts

the move of speed is easy. Cleaning up the tank/console after is the hard part. So, most of the same problems here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...-quetions.html

moving
Depending on your bar riser/bar hight, you may be able to get a mount or top clamp you like and move the indicators and guage without messing with the lenght of the harness. If not, any decent electrical shop or you can extend it. I had mine extended.

Clean up
big bear choppers makes cover for the hole left in the dash if you choose to remove the dash. "Smooth dash cover" . The also have an igntion relocation bracket.
https://bigbearchoppers.com/product-category/dyna/

you could also just stick a guage rear cover over the hole and use long screws and nuts to hold it in place.
Tried that out here

Do you spend a lot of time staring at your speedometer? It seems like a lot of time and expense to move it just a few inches when all you have to do is glance at the speedo for a split second. Even if it's on the bars you still have to divert your eyes to read it.
I've been fine with my speedo on the tank. If traffic and road conditions are that hairy, looking at your speedo is probably the last distraction you want.
Hey, in the end it's your money so do what you want. JMO

cavaria, that's a decent comparo. I have my tach mounted on my top clamp so it's not anywhere as elevated as your setup. Yet I still don't notice any difference in the time or effort to check either gauge.
Frankly, after riding this bike for 10 years I could toss both gauges in the bushes and not miss them at all. Along with my low fuel light, clock and blinker fluid warning light. Just think of the weight savings.

I own a Superglide and I almost didn't buy it because the speedo was on the bars. Having it on the tank cleans the looks up in my opinion. It also makes it easier when you put new bars on the bike. Just my opinion. Could always try to throw a tach in the dash to fill the hole the speedo will leave

You gotta wonder how many riders have been injured/killed because they had to look away from their POT to check speed or monitor other gauges/lamps. I bet it's not zero...
