2007 FXD. What is this? It appears to be acting as a spacer between the shock and strut. Both sides of the bike have one and it attaches to nothing but the shock bolt. Is it possible this is an aftermarket add on for saddle bags? This is my 3rd dyna but the first one I've seen with a bracket like this.
Something seems odd there. I don't see the fender struts... That said, the rear and lower fasteners look like attachment points for some accessory.
Wait...that's a chrome cover over the strut, huh? I thought that was a silver fender. lol.
Does that front lower fastener connect to the frame? It looks like there is a bracket on the inboard side of it.
Nope, it just hangs there attatched to nothing. There is a bolt in it but it's just a nut and bolt. It basically just hangs from the top shock bolt. It's tight and the shock alignment appears to be ok. I just wasn't sure if anyone ever had a bag setup with these.
I have an 07 Dyna. This is NOT factory stuff. There is a spacer on the bottom of the shock. It's the same thickness as the top shock mount. Moves the shock equidistant away from the frame and swingarm. Both of those are not OEM. Look and see what the bottom bolt and bracket are bolted to. I suspect it's holding the rear fender up. What I do NOT see, is the rear fender strut cover.
Maybe this pic can clear things up? As of now it's acting as a spacer only. I should just be able to remove the shock, get the factory spacers/hardware and reinstall the shocks correct?
I don't see why not. I believe there was a change made to the top shock mount around your year. Ask around here. Make sure you get the better of the options.
Those are actually for HD's quick detach saddlebags.
They come with the saddlebags as part of the kit.
The older versions of the QD saddlebags have 3 docking points (2 on the fender strut and one behind each shock)
AliensilverFXDBI, if you are going to remove those docking points, I would really like to buy them. I just picked up a set of QD bags for my street bob, but I need those brackets.
PM me if you are interested in selling them.
