Cool 2012 Dyna Super Glide Custom

Hello All: I have recentlypurchased a 2012 Dyna Super Glide Custom.
Here are the issues I've had already with this bike.
1. Rides like a brick with wheels. (I previously had a 2010 Softail Custom)
2. Adjusted the shocks down to #1, still rides like a brick with wheels.
I was told that I should get a set of Progressive shocks.....? Any thoughts or suggestions?
3. I need a better seat. Anyone have a suggestion for a great comfortable seat for all around touring?
4. Currently has Michelin Scorcher tires; Should I get some American Elite(s)?
5. The engine has been upgraded with a Screaming Eagle Stage 1 ECM mod.
At idle, it sounds like a Chevy 350 V8 with a mild cam. This affects the
ride with excessive vibration at lower RPM in all six gears; especially at 65mph, unless of course I'm just lugging the engine unknowingly.

Any ideas for modifications will be welcome.

Your un-happy with the bike.
#1 with the shocks is dead soft,, try 4 or 5.
Tires are like oil,, they are all the best or the worst,, get what you want.
It's your ***, What do you like your *** to feel like?
Dyna's shake at idle,,
6th gear is lugging at 60-65 if accelerating
If you don't like the bike, Sell it.

aka; ask for help if you want it,, if your just going to snivel, stop.

Get shocks that are rebuildable
Mustang wide vintage for the seat
Scorchers are fine until need replacing, then get whatever you like
Check the front motor mount clearance for vibration . Might need replacing.

Cheap on sale, Progressive 444 $. I wish I had stretched for something better (Ohlin $$$ or Ricor $$.) Saddlemen makes a great seat (IMO.) I still love mine. But, seats are really subject to individual preferences.

I keep revs at around 2800 rpm, unless cruising on a very flat road. I never change into 6th gear under 70 (usually 75.) Cruising in 6th, at 70mph only on long flats.

Agreed. I've found the #4 preload setting is the sweet spot on my ride.

The front isolator is a wear item, sometimes they last, some times they don't. They will degrade rather quickly due to poor vehicle/engine alignment and oil contamination from oil filter removals.

Check your front clearance between the rubber of the isolator and the engine bracket.

Again, this. Coming off a Softie with the 'B' engine, the 'A' of the Dyna is going to feel different; they like a few rev's

The Dyna service bulletin so you can see how to inspect the front isolator. I feel simply cutting the rubber of the isolator is just a bandaid solution. There is a reason many of us in the Dyna forum are running aftermarket engine mounts

Thanks for the advise. I have been looking at the Progressive #444, they have characteristics that seem to meet the touring comfort I'm seeking.
Saddleman, Corbin, Mustang....etc.....so many choices and prices to wade through.
I will look at the idea you've presented on the engine mounts. A great idea! Thanks!

Ride safe...

I too have a 2012 Super Glide Custom that has been a part of more posts than many readers would probably care to see.

It is my second.

For my tastes, this was the most versatile Dyna that H-D produced. It was a blank sheet that the rider could modify to suit just about any riding style or aesthetic leaning.

No problems with mine on the vibration issue. I've aligned the drive train for correct position in both planes and I've modified the front forks as well as installed Ohlins shocks (+2 inches) on the rear.

My riding is more sport oriented along the lines of the BMW's and other European bikes that I have.

The Super Glide with a moderately hopped up motor (204 cams, milled heads, exhaust and FP3 fueler), the jacked up and better suspension, will just about run with anything. It is at the top of the list of my favorite bikes when I'm ready to straighten out a curvy road.

Most people, especially non-Harley people have no idea of the capability of these bikes beyond the low cruiser configuration that most owners prefer.

I have surprised many BMW, KTM, Japanese etc riders.

.

Ditch the stock front motor mount... get a Predator.

FXDC's vibrate...
I like my American Elites so far.. feel great and corner nicely... but then I'm running the same tires as an '08/'09 FLHTCU.

I too have a 2012 FXDC, ...going to be torn down this winter, new front end with rico intimadators, traxxon springs, rico's in the back as well...plus repainting and bags.

Go with a power vision and a tune for you set up. Then autotune it. Its night a day difference in how it performs.

Seats are personal preference, in fact pretty much anything you add or do to your bike is person preference. There is no "best" in anything really, its what works for you and how you want to set your bike up.

Can't really help with most of the stuff.

But about suspension, the Progressive shocks will give a better ride than stock, but after lots of research and testing, we're certain you can get an even better ride than that, for less money, with our Twin Adjustable shocks.

Here is a LINK to a full report we did on rear suspension.

Check out this chart from that report:

Here is a LINK to our Twin Adjustable shocks.

As far as other mod suggestions, we always recommend our Thunder Torque Inserts™, whether you're running stock exhaust or you change it out.

They will give you an increase in low and mid range torque and they deepen the tone, giving it a throatier growl, sounds pretty mean. A 30 buck mod with these kinds of gains are few and far between.

Take a listen to this video, really listening around the 1:50 mark.
