Lowering a fxdx?
Hey guys, i been looking for some 12" shocks for my fxdx and cant seem to find any. I guess progressive doesn't make 412s for it. I talked to a few techs trying to find the difference with the shocks on a fxdx and say a fxd and all they can figure out is the fxdx has shorter bolts for some reason? What are my options for shorter shocks on a fxdx? thanks!
Actually, The FXDX (super Glide Sport) hase 13.5" long shocks. And a FXD(Super Glide) has 12.5 " shocks. I have a 2000 FXDX.
I make shock lowering kits for these bikes. check'm out.

tmworks, I have heard some mixed revies on the shock mounting kits. I weigh 200lbs and often have a 120-140lb passenger on. Are these still going to provide a safe ride?
I took my 13.5" shocks off and put on a setof 11" progresives. Road like a rock. Put my 13.5" shocks back on, designed and machined lowering brackets to get to the same hight. Even with the springs set up to a higher level keep from bottoming out the bike rides twice as good as the progressive shocks.
Just measure the stock shock lenght from hole to hole, figure out wether or not you want to lower it any and how much and order the shocks by lenght. But from what I have read the stock FXDX shock are supposed to be much better than most.
safety is not a problem. I ride withloweringbrackets that have two positions on them. When I ride alone i position them to ride at a 2.5" drop. When I have my wife on the bike I change the position to a 1.25" drop position and set the shock springs to the highest setting. Keep in mine that with my wife on the back we are about 50 lbs. over the max. rated weight capacity for my bike.
In my opinion and experance, the reason that with short shocks you don't see as many issues with bottoming out is that the springs are pretty darn stiff. It's kind of hard to lower a bike and carry a heavy load with soft springs.

Seriously if you do end up going with something shorter I want your FXDX shocks.Of course I'd be happy to trade you my bob shocks for em they're about an inch an a half shorter but in all fairness the Bobs shocks are crap compared to an FXDX.
