Default Replacement Shocks

In an effort to try and lower my new Street Glide I bought a set of lowering blocks off the internet. In the lowest hole I got an extra 1" out of the suspension at the seat. But....I scrubbed the tire in the fender on rolling type bumps. I was wondering if I went to a shorter shock if that would help me instead of the lowering blocks. The shorter shock would keep the shock position the same as stock plus if I go with Progressive 412's I can adjust the pre-load on the springs. I can get 11" or 11.5" progressive shocks. Can anyone of you guys give me any help here with some shorter shock experience on a Street Glide.
Thx..

theSG is already lowered an inch from the factory with shorter rear shocks. i believe it has 11.5 inchshocks and the EG has 12.5 inch shocks.

Well I have just gone through the EXACT thing. I had put on a lowering kit 1.25" and kept hitting the tire on underside of the fender (I put 30PSI on the air shocks and ride single). So I purchased Progressive 440 shocks 11.5" (standard on the RG is 12"). I have had them for about 30 days. Still bottom out - so I keep adjusting the "firmness" and I think I about have it. However remember I ride single, I have no idea what would happen if I had a passenger.

I will say that the 440s have a much better ride than the Harley shocks.

I had a set of 11" Progressives on my RK. It looked cool and I didn't have any problems with bottoming out. The ride was stiff but ok riding solo and abusive 2 up.

What is the difference between the 412"s and the 440 series. Is there any benefit to either series.

I had the same problem with the air ride and lowering blocks,I also think that Harley has one of the worst air rides ever built I have had Goldwings and a RSTD Yamaha they both road like a dream compared to the HD...Don't get me wrong I love my Harley, but like some other things they could learn some things from the Jap's...So I went to the 412 progressive and it has been great now for two years...I have the 412's and a buddy of mine bought the 440's and we switch bikes now and then, neither of us can tell a difference other than he bitches every time he rides mine about the price difference he payed... But it won't be as soft a ride with the progressive but I think my bike handles much better the the stock junk thatit came with....just my 2 cents....Jer

SG OEM SHOCK are 12" - If your rubbin @ -1" increase your shock pressure... If you want to go with the PROGRESSIVE (Great Shocks) go with the 11 1\2" and if your over 200lbs make sure you go Heavy Duty you'll have better results if you do... If ya need to go lower then that... Recommend sending your seat out to MeanCity Cycles and have them lower it also...
