After 43,000+ miles the original shocks on my 2010 Super Glide are getting a tad soft and negatively affecting the ride and handling particularly on rough roads. I have been shopping for a couple of months and pulled the trigger on a set of Progressive 444 FST's from Eastern Perfortmance Cycles {$539.62 - no tax or freight}.
After a couple of lengthy conversations with Rick at Progrressive and Adam at Eastern I elected to go with the standard vs the heavy duty model{which are reccommended for loads in excess of 250#}. I tip the scales at 185 and 90% of my riding is solo. When my bride joins me it brings another 135# to the the equation but the first 65 of that just brings me to the upper limit of the standard shock. The next 70# can be easily addressed with fine tuning and I will probably ride somewhere near the middle of that range adjustment for a more aggressive solo set up which should help deal with some of the rougher roads I frequently encounter.
Should have them in 3 to 5 days and the new issue of baggers arrived yesterday with a short article on setting/adjusting your sag. I took this as a sign from God and went ahead and placed the order.... at least that is what I told my bride...
I have them on my wide glide and my fxr, the wide glide also has the progressive cartridge mono tubes, it rides great. I also weigh In at 185 and run the standard. You will be satisfied!!
Where can I find Ohlins for $540? The cheapest I find are in the $650 range for the Blackine range.
Didn't say that you can get them for $540, just that if you are going that far then the extra $100 or so is worth it. You actually can get a set of the silver Ohlins for your bike (HD 220) for $550 or so. The backlines will set you back a little more.
