I recently got some Progressive 430 shocks for my 2012 Wide Glide....11" just marginally shorter than the stock items...I went for the Heavy Duty type as I weigh around 240Ibs and my other half and occasional pillion is around 140Ibs, so I maybe went a bit overkill as I didn't want bottoming out issues....shocks look great but they are so hard...even on the softest setting when solo it feels like I'm getting kidney punched at every bump in the road.
So, now I'm thinking maybe I should've gone for the standard weight springs but then will they be too soft two up?
As I live in the UK returning the shocks to be fitted with the softer springs is not an economical option...would be cheaper to buy another set and sell the HD's.
I did email progressive but no response.
Any thoughts or ideas much appreciated.
Well you did setup for 2 up riding.
How is the ride 2 up?
I had the same problem on my last bike, with progressives too.
I would sell them. Checking here for opinions on shocks would of helped.
i only ride solo now using the "Works" Streettrackers. I have plenty of adjustment.
They also make a quick adjustable type for instant shift from solo to 2 up.
For the money I recommend them.
An 11 inch shock on a Dyna is simply not going to give you enough suspension travel to be smooth. Making is a HD one makes the problem worse. A lowered bike may look great, you just can't expect it to ride great, that's just not realistic.
something not right here...with you at 240 and your girl at 140 those shocks should perform
very well. While I agree they are on the short side, they should offer better dampening than you are getting. I have the 440 hd's on my RoadKing and they work fine.

I have the 11" SD 430's on my 2011 Wide Glide. I weigh 175 lbs and never ride 2 up. My wife has her own Softail Deluxe. I think they are just right. No issues as a matter of fact I think the bike rides and handles much better than the stock set up. Only mod I did was ground down the notch on the frame for the kickstand so that the bike leaned more. It stood to straight up for me....
That doesn't surprise me....worst customer service I have ever encountered, I refuse to fit them now....Hagons would be a better bet as they will allow you to test the shocks and fit different springs for free (you pay postage).
Short shocks suck and you need to check whether they are bottoming out rather than too hard.
