With my HD detachable, 75 mph feels like tooling around at 30 without one.

The difference between having my Shield and no shield is Night and Day. I actually didn't realize I was doing 75 this last fall, (the first day of the season I rode with the shield on), and got clocked by a State Trooper doing 75 in a 65, citation was given. So for me the shield works great.

You have to take into account that no shield or fairing is going to perform identically with any 2 given riders. Height, handle bars, helmet type, seating position, ergos are all going to be factors. Some will experience buffeting as a result of the helmet choice in combination with the air flow resultant from the shield/fairing of choice.

It's a bunch of variables that are never exactly the same for any 2 riders. For me the Shield works great. When I rode Sport bikes the oem fairings were good, provided I had a full face helmet on. With my 3/4 on the FXDC and shield I'm golden.

Long story short. My experience will not necessarily be yours with the same shield.

Cheers,

Tom

Since your going the WS route, I should point out that I believe my shield is the Compact Lightly smoked model, (bought it 10 years ago, but I'm fairly certain that is it). There are different versions, some are higher etc...I can check the part number, as I still have the box in the garage. If you want it, let me know, I'll check and put it up later.

Cheers,

Tom

Here is the part number: and HD page with description:

Part Number 58348-06

I just sold my HD Quick Detach last night from Craigslist. Had I known, I could have cut you a deal.

The HD quick detach hardware works well but for the actual windshield I suggest the Clearview Shields https://www.clearviewshields.com/sho...davidson/dyna/ The recurve shield allows you a windshield a couple of inches shorter with the same overhead wind.

Thanks for everyone's help. Now to do the research on shields and heights. I'm 5'2", is there a formula or how do I determine the size of the shield

windshield is a beast for highway.

i wouldn't run my quick release around town or a here to Jacksonville sorta run... no way but, wouldn't think of "Hitting the road" for a 400+ miler without my windshield. the wind will wear you down.

saw a guy with your edition SG with a shield, not pretty but, the shield is function first.

swing by a dealer. have them help you.... doesn't mean you need to buy from them. a lot of dealers have take off windshields hanging around from trade-ins and such. you can have ones that you find cut down if needed.

tally hd has tons of them sitting on the take off tables.
