hi guys im currently looking for new rear shocks for my '16 fxdb any of you tried those progressive 444 or 490 12.5'' i can get them both for the same price online. i will be having a passenger (125lbs)once a while and me 180lbs. im leaning toward 490's just because theres more adjustments on them.
I just installed the 490s on my dyna, 13,5. I believe the specs are better and a better performance shocks in general, and they look more badass! Havent got a chance to test them tho... snow. Honest, I bought them because the legend revo a were too expensive...
I have ridden both and the 444 give a more plush ride but the 490 gives a more sportier ride. So if you main goal is performance get the 490 but if you want a more comfortable ride get the 444. We sell both at a great price to forum members so if you want a price just shoot me a PM.
I use the 444s and the ride is pretty good. I like the look of these better than the 490s and they are easier to adjust so if you expect to be alternating between one up and two up riding I think that should be considered. The 490 has a linear spring rate instead of the progressive rate so it will feel a bit stiffer on small frequent bumps.
Been battling with the same debate for my 07 FXDB. I can't attest to the performance or ride quality, as I haven't ridden either. I'm personally leaning towards the 490 in 13.5" to get the most ground clearance I can without going crazy. I believe the 444 is only available in a maximum of 13." After speaking with Progressive on the phone, I was also able to find out that the 13.5" 490 series has 3.4 inches of travel compared to the 13" 444 has 2.9 inches. For reference the stock 12 inchers on street bobs and low riders is only 2.1." While I'm no expert and there are certainly many other factors involved such as spring rate and adjustability, but generally speaking more travel should equal a better shock.
I realize you were looking at the 12.5" ones, but I hope this helps nonetheless.

can we re-use stock hardware to mount them on the bike ?
i was looking on fleabay and found a pair of 490's but they are listed for 06-17 fxdwg i assume they'll on my street bob ?
I just got the 444's in the mail yesterday! Just need to install them now. I have a lean black bike so they'll look great and the price was very reasonable.
