I have had my carburetor off and on a few times recently chasing down gremlins but I did not put on a new seal. The last time I had it off, it had a vacuum leak that I chased down to a leaky carburetor seal.
I head down to the local dealer Thursday after work and got a new boot and started tearing into it yesterday afternoon when I got home. I had put the new boot on and was looking it over before going back together when I noticed this...
Went back to the dealer this morning and got new gaskets and a new flange...Got it all together, tweaked and running nicely...and the run around the block turned into a 2 hour ride.
I don't see a crack there causing a leak. The rubber gasket seals against the head and intake. The flange just compresses the rubber. Did you see any leak tracks across the rubber gasket? They get hard and lose their flexibility when they get old, more prone to leakage.
The slip fit rubber sleeve @ the carb/intake connection gets compressed and leaks when they get old too.
the carb boot was leaking pretty bad so I really didn't check further for more leaks. I could not tell if the intake gasket was leaking or not but the bolt was definitely no longer at torque so it was only a matter of time. Murphy is watching us.........
