used the old intake gaskets on 94 TCU. ran like crap. coughing out of the carb.
bought new intake gaskets. still runs like crap. way too lean, and hotter than a 2 pecker billy goat. is there a super special way to replace these, that I don't just know about? I used a 1/4" allen head, and a 1/4" wrench. very tedious, and time-consuming; but I didn't reef them on, or smash anything in the process...

Check for an intake leak by spraying carb cleaner, or something like WD40 in that area. If the idle changes when you spray you've got a leak.
If no leak, check exhaust for a leak at the cylinder head.
I usually lubricate the intake gaskets before install... they will slip into place better and it usually keeps them from being pinched. I like white lithium grease, but any light lube...including oil will work.
I guess that snugging up the backing plate, and tightening everything at once should eliminate the possibility of any leaks. It's been moved around too much after I tighten them. 3rd time is a charm.
