Dyna year?
wow. Just wow. Did you even read my post? Literally the first scentance I wrote was "as a 2014 STREET BOB owner" so no I do not own a low rider. Your sphincter seems to be cutting your oxygen supply low along with it must be difficult to see out of your glass belly button with your head so far up there....
I bought my second Dyna last year. I used to own a 93 FXR.
Up until this year the Dyna's were the best Harley to set up for good handling. The FXR's are somewhat legendary.
I looked at FXR's and found some nice ones. Then I spoke to my friend who is a Harley mechanic. He reminded me that the evo has been out of production for over 10 years so while you can get parts they are pricey.
My friend advised me to get the newest I could afford. So I did some homework and found that any of the 96 inch motored Dyna's made from 2007 and up are good bikes with many improvements implemented over the 2006 and under 96 inch versions.
The fuel injected twin cams are a leap in improvement over the EVO.
So I found a great 2011 FXDC with about 3500 miles on it for less than NADA book value.
Here is the deal. Harley finally came around to selling bikes this year that are pretty good out of the box. Mono shock and decent forks mean they handle nice without mods. They are a major shift away from the previous approach which was buy a $15+K bike and put another $5k of upgrades on it to make it decent.
If you get a used Dyna and the previous owner has not upgraded the suspension you will have some work to do if you want to make it live up to its potential. That personalization is what appeals to me and I knew this going in. So I have added all kinds of mods to get the thing to handle like it can.
Most Harley's get mods and upgrades by their owners. If you shop you can find one with the upgrades done.
Let us know what you end up with.

I know most will probably disagree but Im a fan of the EVO Dynas, mid 90s through 1998 which was the last year for the EVO engine in Dynas. There are plenty of them out there with low miles at reasonable prices. In my opinion, the EVO is the last REAL Harley engine with direct lineage to the Knucklehead of 1936. As I said, others will probably disagree and Im sure they will! Good luck in your search.
I would like to add...
Evolution Motored Dyna's... Fantastic Bikes -
I prefer to Tinker on my bikes versus drop off at Dealership for Mods or Services. I like to be able to adjust the Carb if I feel like it - Evo motor was and is Very Reliable, Plenty of Power, Easy to tear down the engine and put it back together, if needed.
Draw Back - 5 speed transmission which is just fine BUT, I prefer having the Newer 6 speed (2007 and later Dynas) with the 6th gear being Overdrive (just a personal preference)
Change subject slightly...
I really like Sportsters - Similar to Dynas - "Slightly smaller in Stature" - Less expensive - Same motors for 30+ years - 5 speed transmissions
(I think my Preference would be a Sportster with a 6 speed transmission BUT, they are not available with 6 speed transmissions)
Good Luck on your Dyna Shopping!!

He also asked what year DYNA, last I knew FXR folks got pissy if you called their bikes dynas...

he's actually right. low rider offers more of everything except rake and wider forks
Honestly not trying to be right. Just my opinion based on what the LR offers. If you're looking for a wide glide, by all means go for it, I loved my old one.
