just a thought not a judgement.

I work at a fire station for a career and have scooped lots of bikers off the road.
Why if I may ask? How is it any different than buying a used scoot? I.E. 2nd hand suspension?

OP are u comparing your sportbike to harley ? If so heres some more input. I used to race and still own a r1 ans gsxr.

sportbike shocks are not comparable. A stock shock on a r6 , r1, gsxr is barely equivalent to a harley shock. I can easily say my stock gsxr 750 stock shocks are way better than the feel of my ohlins harley.

Long story short. A stock or mid price harley shock is still significantly crappier than a stock sportbike setup. You cant compare the 2. Once you ride you will realize what im talking about. The stock shocks on sportbikes are already hella good. Mid end shocks on harley still dont compare.

dont find out the hardway. So many people go through 2-3 sets of shocks. There is no electronic suspension systems for harley. These things r still stuck in 1980. Your comparisons are comparing pricing of apples to oranges. The sportbike market pricing doesnt equate to harley. You almost need to erase everything u know about sportbikes.

If your anything like me...after going from sportbikes....youll realize ohlins should be standard on a harley. When i mean standard...i mean its still only a fraction of comfort and handling to what a stock sportbike feels. I still feel more comfy on sportbikes on a why compares to my ohlins setup on my dyna.

I've never had an issue with used shocks. Given that, anything used is not going to have a warranty or support if they are or go bad. Used will save you around $100 no matter what you get. As for suggestions on "bang for buck" I think the lowest to go where you won't feel the need to upgrade in the future is around $400 for a decent set. See what people who ride like you use and their cost. Do you drag in city, do a lot of highway riding, have a passenger frequently, take corners 20 MPH over the suggested speed, or just go fast on the straightaways? There are several in the $400 price point that are very good shocks. If you vary the way you ride across the spectrum you may need to up your price point to around $600 to get shocks that respond well in all of those situations and have the ability to adjust them easily to adapt.

Good stuff man, really good points you've made. I'm def not comparing it to my R1 or anything. The FXD is a SUPER FUN city bike but it can't ever hold it's own at the track. I've ridden with cats from Dynamite or Dynaholics, whichever, at Willow and they do really well for guys on FXR/FXDs, but in the end they can't keep up even in B group.

I just want it dialed it for my weight. It seems like Ohlins is the way to do it though, so I guess I'll cough up the cash for them fancy springs

Thanks again B, if you're around socal hit me up on IG and let's go for a ride. IG: fastaf.818

Forks I'd take used, gonna change springs on em anyway, but shocks i'd probably get new, for no glaring reason.

I ride everyday all over LA. I mess around dragging and **** on the street, but I do a bit of everything, and I'm a heavy dude (250lbs) so I really feel the stockies struggling and bottoming out every 2 seconds. I take a lady here and there on the back, but usually I'm solo.

In the end, tires suspension and brakes you can't short on, so I guess I'll roll with some Ohlins

Thanks for the knowledge B.

I hope this is not against forum rules(if it is please delete)but I just happen to know where there are a pair of Hagon 2810 shocks which where on a 2007 FXD for about 1K miles, which the owner (me)has never bothered to sell.

Good find! Thanks man, I'm also looking at racing brothers, they got some awesome options, and my buddy who rides the hell out of his FXR swears they're every bit as good as the Ohlins.
