Talking Affordable performance shocks. *NEW GUY*

Hey all,

New to the forum, good to be here, thank you for having me.
ride: 2009 FXD superglide

I'm hoping some of you have some suggestions on new or underrated companies making sporty shocks for FXDs.

Que the guy telling me that I get what I paid for and cheap stuff is cheap. I realize there is affordable and there is cheap. I am looking for affordable.

The bike does not see the track ( I prefer japanese bikes when I really wanna go fast) but I do ride the hell out of it on streets/highways/canyons

Any direction is much appreciated.

Thank you all.

EBay. Look for something 2nd hand. Also, comb through the parts groups on the book. Should have no problem finding something.

bro second hand suspension would make me nervous. There are for sure cool second hand stuff for our scooters, but second hand suspension would make me nervous. gotta trust your life in the corners.

just a thought not a judgement.

I work at a fire station for a career and have scooped lots of bikers off the road.

The word affordable and performance dont go hand in hand. A good quality shock is not all about racing. The better quality the more coomfortable you will be also.

whats your budget? I always say go with a shock that can be serviced. Hagons, Works, come to mind. Avoid progressives and burly f you can but that's just one mans opinion.

Ohlins is one of the most obvious choices. For me, $800 is cheap for the gains you get. Thats $400 a stick for next to best handling and comfort.A small price compared to the overall cost of our bikes.

Second hand ohlins is okay, you can always send it in for servicing. But you aint gonna get much discount on used ohlins nor will u see too many available. People rarely trade up from Ohlins. You may see more progressive used shocks since many users may upgrade from these.

I don't have a range i want the best bang for the buck. I have a ton of stuff i need to fix/change on the bike, the longer i can stretch the buck, the more i can do.

I know about all of the big names out there, wanted to see if any underdogs are making stuff at lower prices.

thanks for the tips, def some things to consider.

Im aware of ohlins being great forks, but unless you're talking electronic suspensions, many other companies put out a product just as good.

I race on stocks that were rebuilt for me, they aren't as adjustable, but they don't need to be becuase i don't retune to specific tracks. On the street it matters to me even less. I just want some springs that are proper to my weight and have some adjustability.

I'n any case, thank you for the advice, much appreciated.
