I've blown three 15A ignition fuses in the last 200 miles on my 2007 Streetbob. I checked every wire that I can to look for shorts caused by abbrasion. Water is also not an issue. I'll have the dealer check it at the 1,000 mile service. It first happened at600 then around 720 then at 750 and I've gone another 30 miles and it hasn't happened again, YET. Anybody run into this one yet? I did relocate the front turn signals to the trees but I tripple checked my work and everything is fine. I didn't nick or pinch anything and if that was the problem the lighting fuse should blow, right? [:@]
I had a similar fuse problem a couple months ago. I had just relocated my rear signals, but like you, I checked everything over and over and couldn't find the problem. Finally, the bike died altogether, and the security system conked out. Thought it was the TSSM, but towed it to the dealer. Turned out to be the system relay. Not sure how that caused the problem, but it was a $5 part (has to be the cheapest part Harley makes). Haven't had any problems since. And I bought a spare for next time.
About a year ago I was having problems with my #6 (Engine Control Fuse) blowing. Probably 8 times in about 3 months. At first, I thought it was a worn ground wire coming from my DFO because I'd jiggle things around there and it would be fine for a while. However, I discovered the culprit was actually the little star washer on the screw of the negative post of my battery. It was fried. I stuck another washer there and haven't had a problem in about 8 months. Worth a look.
It's time to take it in for the 1000 service anyway so Ironvalley HD is gona come pick it up Wed. at 4 p.m. and they said they'll take care of it. They really are a great dealership. They take good care of their customers and they don't rape ya with mark-up charges when you buy the bike. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
