I have researched this and started diag on the bike. Short history. Bike ran 7 years ago and i drove it after the owner took ill and was unable to ride it home. Own lost his ability to tude and drive and has beem going down hill. His son sold me the bike in hopes i could get it going and knew i like it. Trying to get it running not only.to use it myselfnbut to put it on a dyno and let the old owner ride it again before he isnt able to move. Huntingtons disease. Very uncool. So please any help would be great.
Repairs done so far. Rebuilt the carb and new choke cable. Cleaned corrosion and evicted the mice amd their homes.
bike fired up with battery pack and had to jumo the stsrter solenoid as the swich was not working was running good. Noted check engine light was on while i was running.
negative clamp bounced off the frame and bike turned off.
attemptednto restart and no deal. Lost spark
so no crank no spark.
its at a local shop i do a little work for. And we have tested the switches on the bar and they work with a test light. Starter relay has power and can be forced to spin the starter when pushing the start button power up the relaybut relay is not working or grounding on the control side. Grounding this terminal blows a fuse instantly.
cannot connect to scan tool and flasher diag light does nothing. I also noted i have no turn signals.
Help...lol. i can diagnose if i have a direction but the manual i have sucks. It gives no theory of operation on how the tsm/tssm control anything. Am i looking at a security issue. Crank sensor, ignition module, coil. Thanks in advance
If there were mice crawling in and around this thing there's no telling what it could be. I would think the negative clamp contacting the frame has zero to do with your problems since the battery is in fact grounded to the frame.
If your popping a fuse every time, you're shorted out somewhere. Start with the stuff under the seat.
Just want to start with, I HATE wiring issues. I would start with removing the battery and putting it on a tender. Then check every wire under the seat and around the fuse panel with a voltmeter on the ohms setting. Make sure that all of them have continuity. After that, check all your fuses and relays, then toss your battery in and give it a try. Mice are awful, if they chewed wires, its possible that when you started it it could've shook around all of those ratty wires causing contact and blown fuses. Good luck and keep us posted!
What he said.... when dealing with anything electrical 1st step is to make sure the battery is working properly....then the ground wires, then the components....
like said before, with mice chances are you might need to repair/replace the wiring harness
All, witing was checked out and repaired or replaced. Not bad considering where it sat and how long it was there. Still the same problem tho. Brand new battery. Checkcengine light stays on, no ctank, if starter is jumped, no spark. All controls rechecked to starter relay and good. Kill switch good powers and grounds all presen and clean. Im leaning toward thentssm module. But would like to find the electrical diag charts from maunal. The repair manual is usless for wiring. Can i use thebreset listed in the forums. Or am i looking for a scanilyzer?
Well got it up and running. Had to replace a lot of things but i got it...lol. found the tssm internally melted, starter relay damaged, that got the motor to spin over. Replaced ignition module to get some spark goimg. And engine fires and ran. But not a light om the bike worked. Had to replace every single bulb. Check engine light was on, no odo or Speedo. Replaced the speedo head and all is good for the most part. Still needs a little tlc to be all good but runs and rides!!
